Ahimsa

In these turbulent times, where society and its people are becoming increasingly intolerant and “violent,” it is time on focus on the importance of ahimsa or non-violence. Espouse nonviolence between nations, within a society, between mankind – before hatred, violent thoughts and actions consume our lives and destroy us all. It is time to make peace the mantra of our lives.

When one is established in non-injury, beings give up their mutual animosity in his presence.

Yoga Sutras

Hatred will never cease by hatred. By love alone, hatred will cease. This is the Eternal Law.

The Buddha

All suffering recoils on the wrongdoer himself. Therefore, those who desire not to suffer refrain from causing others pain.

Saint Tiruvalluvar

The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate. Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The peace in the sky, the peace in the mid-air, the peace on earth, the peace in waters, the peace in plants, the peace in forest trees, the peace in all Gods, peace in Brahman, the peace in all things, the peace in peace, may that peace come to me.

Rig Veda

The Roots of Violence: Wealth without work, Pleasure without conscience, Knowledge without character, Commerce without morality, Science without humanity, Worship without sacrifice, Politics without principles.

Mahatma Gandhi
