National Veterans Creative Arts Festival Oct 5-11, San Antonio, TX

More than 120 veterans from across the country who are medal winners in national music, dance, drama, creative writing or visual arts contests attended the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival in San Antonio. “The Creative Arts Festival represents the top achievements of veterans participating in VA art therapy throughout the nation,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki. At this year’s event, these talented veterans came for a week of rehearsals and workshops, concluding on Sunday, Oct. 11, with a visual art exhibit and gala variety stage show.

Left : Army veteran Ernest T. Knox of Temple, Texas, performed a hit rendition of Chubby Checker’s “The Twist,” along with background singers, the “Temple T’s.”

Middle : Robert Van Caster, Jr., an Army Veteran from Albuquerque, N.M., won a gold medal in the art division for his entry “Hail Mary Prayer.”

Right : Art Lee, an Air Force veteran from Woods Cross, Utah, played “The Changing Tide.”
